  • Pecha Kucha Jakarta
    Pecha Kucha Jakarta pechakuchajakarta.wordpress.com

Pecha Kucha is a networking event, seeking to bring together creative minds from all fields. At one Pecha Kucha Night, up to 14 speakers present their work in the typical Pecha Kucha format: each person is allowed to show only 20 images, each image lasts for 20 seconds.

The result is a furiously fast-paced, fun row of presentations, at 6:40 min per speaker. This may seem short – but it has proven to be just the right time to offer insight into one’s work and to make a point!

At Pecha Kucha, designers present alongside architects, filmmakers or even scientists; they can be newcomers or well-established personalities. What binds them together is their exceptional ideas, and, at Pecha Kucha, having to stick to the strict presentation format!

Pecha Kucha Jakarta is organized by Sharon Isabella, Dian Guritno and Nadine Freischlad. Follow their twitter at twitter.com/pechakuchajkt

  • TEDx Jakarta
    TEDx Jakarta tedxjakarta.tumblr.com

TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a four-day journey into the future.” The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, are self-organized.

TEDxJakarta, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxJakarta event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.TEDx Jakarta mission is to create a community in Jakarta where local great thinkers and doers as well as those who aspire to become one come together and humble themselves to learn from one another. We dream that TEDxJakarta could be a revolutionary knowledge lab where cross-area learning can occur freely, in such that neuroscientists can benefit by peeking into the works of yoga specialists and economists by learning from jazz musicians. We aim to have as much of a variety as possible in the speakers’ fields and topics as well as within the composition of the audience. We also allow the possibility of having musical, art, or dance performances as part of our programme.

TEDx Jakarta is organized by Karina Sigar, Arief Aziz and Kartika Anindya. Follow their twitter at twitter.com/pechakuchajkt and hashtag #TEDxJKT
